I’ve been a pet groomer for over 20 years, and I opened my first pet grooming salon in 2003.

My salon is one of the most successful salons in the area where I live, and I believe this is because of my passion for this career, as well as my strong work ethic and the strong work ethic of my staff.

Almost every day at least two (and usually many more!) people ask me about becoming a pet groomer. Some of the most common questions I am asked are:

And the most common question…

How much money will I make if I become a groomer?

Two of those questions are easy to answer, and two of them are not easy to answer.

As far as online dog grooming courses, I have never seen one that presents satisfactory training in my opinion, and therefore have never seen one that I can recommend. In fact, I think they’re a waste of money. The second easy question involves a very simple answer: no, you don’t need a license to be a dog groomer.

Now that the easy questions are out of the way, let’s take a look at the other two. How you become a dog groomer is completely up to you, but you have to be careful because if you want to be a successful groomer and make good money, you have to have good training. A lot of the training courses available to you are substandard, and the last thing you want is to receive incorrect training.

The salary of a dog groomer depends on many factors, and each one is just as important as the next. Because of this, you cannot simply look at a salary website and know how much money you can expect to earn as a groomer.

I know groomers who only make $30,000 a year, and I know groomers who make over $100,000 a year. Because of the misinformation on the salary websites, and also because these days many underpaid groomers work for the large chain stores, some people think you can’t make good money as a pet groomer.

Well let me tell you something, if I only made $30,000 a year I would have quit a long time ago! No, you can make MUCH more than what these websites would have you believe. In fact, most of the groomers working for me are making $60,000 to $80,000 a year right now as you’re reading this.

These questions are some of the most common, but there are many more you have to answer before you become a groomer.
