What is the art of the tip? Simply put, it’s using your skills as a groomer to get more money each time you groom a pet.
If you are a good groomer and keep your clients happy, you’ll be surprised at the amount of tip money they’ll gladly hand over to you.
One of the main reasons I made The Pet Groomer was to make it very clear that you can make some AMAZING money as a groomer!
As I’ve mentioned before, I’ll never forget the first time I made over $500 in one day as a pet groomer.
I had already made $400 in a day several times before, so I knew the day would come when I reached my next goal of $500.
I can't thank you enough for all of your great advice!"

Now that I have been a successful groomer and salon owner for a while, making that much money is an everyday thing.
But one thing that hasn’t changed from that first $500 day, is the fact that a big chunk of the money I earn everyday comes from tips given by my clients.
Making great tips is one of the keys to making the big bucks in this career.
Once you’ve become a good groomer and learned how to keep your clients happy, most of them will reward you with great tips.
In fact, it’s VERY rare for a client not to give me a tip.
It isn’t uncommon for a client to give me a $30 tip on top of a $50 groom.
Since I can bathe and groom most small to medium-sized dogs in around an hour and a half, when someone tips like that it means I am making around $53 an hour.
Of course, some clients give less than $30 tip, but some give even more. I have a couple of clients who regularly give me tips of $50, and one client who gives even more than that.
As you know already, people spend boatloads of cash on their pets, and if you’re a good groomer and they like your work, they will reward you for it.
That’s just the way it works in this business.
Some people think grooming is only about the pets, but the truth is you will have to interact with a lot of people as well.
When it comes to keeping clients happy your good grooming skills will take care of most of the work, but if you’re not the most social person, you’ll have to practice your people skills.
Remember to always be very kind to clients, even clients who seem grumpy.
Sometimes this can be difficult, and there have been times when I’ve had arguments with clients, but that was when I first started grooming.
Now that I’m better around people from running my own grooming business for 15 + years, I never have problems with my clients.
Always show your clients how much you truly love their pets, that you love their pets as much as your own, especially new clients.
Also, set out a tip jar or even just a sign that says “Thank you so much for your tips!”
I have actually tested different signs in the past to see which phrase brought in the most tips, and that phrase seemed to be the one.
In fact I still use it to this day to get awesome, huge tips from my clients!
